Macclesfield trials report 08-08-09
The final round of the Trials Magazine sponsored summer series was held at Rough Heys quarry after a late change of venue proved a popular move. Nearly 80 riders turned out to ride the 4 laps of 10 sections.
As this was the final round, there were plenty of individual challenges for the top three places in the various classes of the trials mag series plus the challenges for top spot on the night. On the hard route Mike Roberts had already tied up the series win, with a round remaining but this didn’t prevent him and Mark Reynolds having their own personnel contest. A single dab was lost by Mike to take another round victory taking his total to 3 wins but it was a close call for victory on the night as Mark dropped only 2 marks.
A strong entry in the inter class disrupted the leaders challenge as the top three places went to riders making their only appearance in the series. Toby Eyre was best of these dropping only 7 marks on the Inter route. Of the riders in with a shout for the series, Pat Sharrock came fourth which was enough to see of the challenge of T Sheppard. The best 0/40 on this route was Mike Leddy with a score of 13 - just piping Andy Hipwell to second spot on the most cleans rule. Second was easily good enough for Andy to take the 0/40 series on the 50/50 route.
There were two close contests on the middle route. The first in the 0/40 class where Ade Bellis and Paul Atkinson had exchanged 1st and 2nd place for the first 3 rounds with Paul holding the advantage. There was a change in the order at this event with Carl Machin taking the 1st with Ade 2nd and Paul relegated to third. Third was still good enough for Paul to win the championship. The second close encounter was of the 0/50 variety with two veterans battling it out for top place. The evergreen! Henry Rosenthal and Derby’s Kev Stannard inseparable after scoring identical points and number of round wins.
Also on the middle route M Thorpe took the Novice championship with 2 wins and a second in previous rounds. On the 50/50 middle / easy route the clubman’s championship was taken by the consistent finishing Les Pattison with P Carson’s two wins from two rides enabling him to take second place. Third overall was Andy Belfield who must be finding nappy changing and disturbed nights suiting his riding style. S Ellison was series winner on the easy route.
