Macclesfield Trials Club, John MacDonald Road Trial

Report by Ben Miles

A cool and clear morning greeted the 80 riders for the annual Macc road trial. 2 laps of 21 sections awaited. After the overnight rain, section 1 turned out to be a tad wetter than planned and took a dab off second place Expert Richard Timperley. The third group saw Craig Robinson receive a 5 on Joy Chell’s section. Despite this, Craig took overall win in the Experts. Mick Boam yet again put in an excellent ride to take third dropping just 47 marks, despite a few sections not being to his liking

On the 50/50 route, local ace Ian ‘rev it’ Robinson was just beat to 1st position by a cracking ride by Sam Clarke who only dropped marks on 3 sections all day.

The easier route was as always very popular and the scores were very close. Andy Downham took the Novice win on 41, but a matter of 10 marks made all the difference,

Section 19 was a deep very wet gully, which to look at seemed impossible to clean but Craig was the only riders to clean it all day, despite Stu Day trying to take a very daring line on his second lap.

Other notable rides include Mr A Bellfield on the Novice route, who looked exhausted at the end of the trial and Terry Shepherd who posted a score of 47 on the clubman route after being lost for an hour and a half trying to find the start venue !

As always I would like to say a big thanks to all helpers and particularly the observers!!!
