Macclesfield trials club Kelcoat championship round 2
J Thompson entered his first trial as an adult after a successful youth campaign and duly won the event, dropping just a single mark on the tricky section 9.In second place for the second Macclesfield trial in a row was Derby rider Mike Boam. Mike was also in single figures with a score of 7 and was the only rider on the expert route to clean section 9. In third place was local rider Mike Roberts who also kept his score under 10 but only just, eventually dropping 9 marks.
Fourteen riders entered as inters on the 50/50 route, with many making the trip from Wales as the trial was the final round of the centre Championship. Neil Butterworth (17) was best on this route by a margin of 6 from centre championship contender Matthew Marubbi (23). Beating all the inters and a good few 0/40 and youth riders as well, was veteran Mike Leddy with an impressive low score of 14.
On the middle route the most cleans rule had to be called into action to split young S Platt and A Jones after both dropped a very reasonable score of 26 on the four laps of 10 tricky sections. With S coming out on top by just 1 clean. The 0/40 class, which is one of the most popular classes at many trials these days and one of the most competitive at the Macclesfield club, was won by another veteran and centre championship contender Colin Sagar on the lowest score for a middle route rider of 7. The only other rider to accomplish a single figure score on the middle route was 0/50 rider Andy Foot on 9.
The newly introduced clubman route where riders ride 50% of the middle sections and 50% of the easy route sections was won by Carl Braddock on 14 marks . On the easy route A Bray and S Berry had to be split by the most 1’s rule as they both lost the same number of points (13) and recorded the same number of cleans (31). Perhaps a step up to the 50/50 route is called for next time lads.
The club would just like to thank all the organisers and especially the setting out crew of Phil Dale, Andy Hallam and Ian Robinson and the observers for standing out on a cold November day allowing the entry of 99 riders to enjoy a days sport.
